How We Came To Be
Lymphoma Is A Loser has been a long-term goal in the back of my mind for years. I never imagined that with some help and encouragement of family and friends, that we would be able to form an actual Non-Profit Organization! The opportunity to begin coordinating the Totes for Ta-Ta’a event was a perfect push to be able to fundraise for Illinois CancerCare on a larger scale. Couple that with one of your wedding’s groomsman saying, “hey, lets have a golf outing,” and “let’s do it in September”, and suddenly your life has a “fundraising season.” Making both happen only 6 weeks apart in the first year pushed myself and our committees even further! It was then that I realized that with some diligence, we could ACTUALLY do this!
#LymphomaIsALoser was a social media hashtag that myself and one of my best friends used during the time that BOTH of our husbands were undergoing treatment for Lymphoma in 2015. It was during that time that we realized while our husbands were both sick, we still wanted to help other people going through treatment. We worked together and got donations from family and friends and put together care packages for the treatment room at our local clinic. We also used other hashtags like #LymphomaWives and #IHateStinkyPeteCancer, but Lymphoma Is a Loser sounded much more fitting for a nonprofit name!
